During the closing ceremony, participants endorsed a Peace Declaration and committed themselves to personal and institutional actions towards peace.
As Unitarian * Universalists and people of liberal faith, we foster global partnerships to promote peace and security and build a just, inclusive society.
Conflicts and disasters, including pandemics, affect women and girls disproportionately because crisis-related hardships compound pre-existing disadvantages and inequities. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) underscore that poverty, conflict, climate change and forced migration, as well as gender inequality, are closely linked. Therefore, women's empowerment must be integrated into overall development and peacebuilding in UN negotiations and actions.
A growing body of evidence shows that women's participation in peace processes and conflict prevention results in more stable peace agreements. Women's perspectives and experiences are therefore essential in shaping inclusive solutions for sustainable peace.
Empowering women as peacebuilders, peacekeepers, mediators, and agents of change will lead to greater global peace, strengthening social cohesion and community resilience.
We therefore commit to personal and institutional actions, stemming from the work of the Global Sisters Conversations at the Fourth International Convocation of Unitarian * Universalist Women (ICUUW), Kolozsvár/Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 5-8 September 2024.
