Group from from the Indian Council of Unitarian Churches

In early January 2026 , about 120 members of the Indian Council of Unitarian Churches (ICUC) travelled to Chennai in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. They came from the state of Meghalaya with its churches in the Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Karbi Anglong district, as well as a congregation in the neighboring state of Assam. Other members of ICUC travelled from Gujarat, a state on the border to Pakistan. Their journeys took them across 3000 kilometers to attend the 10th ICUC conference.

In Chennai, we were welcomed by 150 members of the Unitarian Christian Church Chennai.  Guests from Dallas, USA and Prague, Czech Republic, were also welcomed. Altogether more than 300 people participated in a 4-day gathering, hosted by the beautiful people of Chennai and supported by fabulous weather for this time of the year.

The gathering included a two day conference that engaged body, mind and soul. Workshops, Praise and Worship, Yoga and Meditation were offered by excellent facilitators. Accompanied by sumptuous food and entertainment, the meeting revived all participants, strengthened our bond, deepened our spirituality,  stabilised our partnership and established fresh connections.

I held a meeting with around 60 women where I introduced ICUUW and handed out brochures about our organization.

What touched me the most is that the Chennai Congregation, small in numbers with barely 150 members, engaged ALL its members, including the children, in making the conference a grand success.

The ICUC or the Indian Council of Unitarian Churches is a National body of the Unitarians in India founded in December 1987. I sincerely hope each one of us will continue to work toward maintaining and sustaining this relationship and taking our faith to higher dimensions, keeping the betterment of all creation in our hearts always.
