Healing Mother Earth: How Sustainable Development Addresses Poverty for the World’s Women and Girls
A special celebration for International Mother Earth Day!
In honor of International Mother Earth Day, ICUUW hosted an online interactive event with life-long UU Erin Boeke Burke. Erin, Director and Lead Analyst in the sustainable finance practice at S&P Global Ratings, works with teams of people in different parts of the world to assess the environmental, social, and governance issues which drive investment considerations.
Erin spoke about the progress being made toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to energy, food, and water - and how this impacts women and girls.

Dear Beloved Members and Friends,
Happy New Year to all! 2024 will be a year full of new challenges and adventures for ICUUW. I hope that each one of you will consider becoming involved in a new activity - there are so many opportunities to learn and grow with us! If you haven’t attended any of our Tuesday Gatherings, it would be a good first step. If your schedule does not allow you to participate in the gatherings, we have many other ways you can get to know us better. Please visit our website to learn more.
This year will bring the excitement of our 4th Convocation in Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvár, Transylvania, Romania. I can’t wait to see many of you at this long-anticipated event. Being together in person does so much to strengthen the ties that bind us and to give energy and momentum to our journey towards gender equity. My wish for us is that the women of Transylvania will feel the love and support of women from many other parts of the world and that we, visitors, will feel the profound historical energy that comes from being in the places where Unitarianism was born and began to blossom. May it be so.
This newsletter is brimming with the many activities and projects that ICUUW is a part of. There are so many accomplishments that make us proud! The journey is long and the roads are often bumpy, but we must continue and forge new paths for the women of tomorrow and beyond.
In Faithful Sisterhood,
Karen Kortsch, ICUUW President

With the positive attitude suggested by the title above, we gathered in Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mureș on November 17, 2023. The two-day mental health training - organized by ICUUW in collaboration with UNOSZ (Unitarian Women’s Association of Romania) thanks to a generous grant from the UU Funding Program - provided very meaningful and spiritual experiences.
