Executive Director
International Convocation of Unitarian Universalist Women

The ICUUW is a global partnership of Unitarian*Universalists who work for all women’s and girls’ equity through Unitarian Universalist connections around the world. We connect women to advance women’s leadership and self-determination. We work together to end all forms of discrimination.

As a global organization we are aware of the intricacies of intercultural dialogue. Our members are a diverse group and how we work together is as important to us as what we do. Learning how to be better in global community - how to be in right relations - is an ongoing process. Every member contributes to this global dialogue, and every voice is equally important.

We seek a new permanent Executive Director for our organization of volunteers. In our NGO, the Board of Directors has ultimate governance authority. The Executive Director role is multifaceted; it primarily entails managing the organization’s daily activities and steering it toward achieving its mission and vision. The Executive Director:

  • reports to the Board and runs the organization’s operations
  • drives our organization’s mission and supports our volunteers
  • ensures ICUUW’s programming goals and organizational development
  • supports the organization’s financial objectives through fundraising
  • works with other part-time contractors and leading volunteers

This is a part-time contractor position (10-15 hours per week) that requires a high degree of flexibility. ICUUW is a virtual organization and the Executive Director will work 100% remotely. Some travel might be involved. The position can be located anywhere in the world. To accommodate the various time zones of our members and volunteers, the Executive Director might need to be available early in the morning and late at night.

Compensation is experience-based and location-adjusted. While this is a contract position without employment benefits, the role offers a range of meaningful and professional rewards:

  • Global Leadership Experience: Lead a dynamic, international network of Unitarian*Universalists dedicated to advancing equity for women and girls across cultures and continents.
  • Mission-Driven Work: Contribute directly to building a more just and compassionate world through values-based leadership and intercultural collaboration.
  • Flexible Schedule and Remote Work: Enjoy full flexibility to organize your hours and location. Work from anywhere in the world while engaging with a diverse, global team.
  • Collaborative, Inclusive Environment: Join a supportive community where every voice matters and collective wisdom shapes the way we work.
  • Personal and Professional Growth: Deepen your understanding of global equity, intercultural dialogue, participatory leadership, and faith-based advocacy in an organization that encourages continual learning.
  • Networking and Visibility: Build relationships with international partners, Unitarian Universalist leaders, and women’s rights advocates around the world.

We are looking for a candidate who

  • Is familiar with the values of Unitarian Universalism
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, organizational and administrative skills, and excellent verbal and written communications. Multi-lingual ability is a plus, particularly in languages spoken by communities with a strong Unitarian*Universalist presence.
  • Has proven experience of participatory management and leadership
  • Is at ease with virtual meetings and demonstrates proficiency in utilizing online tools, including Google Workspace, Zoom, and WhatsApp
  • Is knowledgeable about organizations within the U/U communities worldwide and nurtures a continuing understanding of ways ICUUW can collaborate with these organizations

Support of the Board of Directors

  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and other volunteers, carrying out plans and policies authorized by the Board.
  • Work with the Board of Directors, increasing their understanding of and execution of their portfolio assignments and their responsibilities as members of the Board.

Collaboration with ICUUW Committees and Task Forces

  • Serve as support for standing committees and task forces, as necessary
  • Promote active and broad participation of volunteers in committees and task forces

Internal Communications and External Public Relations

  • Engage with the internal ICUUW community including members, volunteers, and donors
  • Assist in developing marketing strategies and implementation, in close collaboration with the Marketing Director to keep external partners informed and engaged
  • Seek alliances and partnerships that support the realization of ICUUW’s vision and mission.

Fundraising and Development

  • Identify new funding sources
  • Work with committees to encourage donations from existing contacts
